So I was pondering our discussion of "Would You Have A Young Virgin" and how we were discussing the context of the song as an instructional guide to intercourse, but also as a fun song that was not sung sincerely or necessarily treating women as objects per say, and the border between the two is sometimes vague. As I was in class I jotted down a few songs from my own music collection (Beck and Tenacious D) and then began to search out into the popular consciousness to find some well-known songs about sweet lovemaking. Below are the links to the fruits of my research as well as some lyrics as food for thought. Beware -- some are not for the faint of heart.
Madonna – Like A Virgin
This song could be seen as a response to “To Have A Young Virgin” in the sense that rather than the man tricking the woman into losing her honor, she chooses just the right moment for her own liberation.
Gonna give you all my love, boy
My fear is fading fast
Been saving it all for you
'Cause only love can last
You're so fine and you're mine
Make me strong, yeah you make me bold

Beck – Sexx Laws
This song directly addresses the implicit codes, which go with the act of courting, and eventually intercourse. He attempts to defy them, in order to receive sexual gratification from the woman.
I'm a full-grown man
But I'm not afraid to cry
I want to defy
The logic of all sex laws
Let the handcuffs slip off your wrists
I'll let you be my chaperone

Marvin Gaye - Let's Get It On
Quite simply – a sexual anthem, this song defies complex explanation, but rather than a guide for men, this song manages to pull right at the female heartstrings into a smooth persuasive argument of soul. Notice also the level of respect “If you feel” and “I ain’t gonna push you”, it completely leaves the choice up to the woman.
And giving yourself to me can never be wrong
If the love is true
Don't you know how sweet and wonderful life can be
I'm asking you baby to get it on with me
I ain't gonna worry
I ain't gonna push, won't push you baby
So c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, baby
Stop beatin' 'round the bush
Let's get it on

Tenacious D - F*ck her Gently
This most closely adheres to the idea of an instructional guide for men. It outlines the different scenarios and how to handle the various moods of women, and how to please her properly.
*Warning this one is particularly lewd, although I think pretty hilarious…
This is a song for the ladies
But fellas listen closely
Sometimes ya got to squeeze
Sometimes you've got to say please
Sometime you've got to say hey
